"Klokkeklang" ("Bell Ringing") Edvard Grieg (1843-1907)

One day Grieg went fishing with his friend Francis Beyer, a composer and tax inspector. A musical theme came into Grieg’s head, and taking paper from his pocket he quietly jotted it down and put the slip beside him on the bench. A moment later a gust of wind blew it overboard. Unseen by Grieg, however, Beyer retrieved it, and moments later he began whistling the tune.

“What was that?“ demanded Grieg.

“Just an idea I had,“ said Beyer nonchalantly.

“What the devil! I just had the same idea myself!“
