William’s Music

I composed my first piece when I was 8 years old. Which means that my composing journey spans over six decades so far. Much I have written has been lost in the chaos of life over the years. Nevertheless, I’m moved to list everything I have — warts and all. Perhaps as a cautionary tale to others! Or perhaps to encourage other composers to keep at it. Nothing happens without perseverance.

Everything is listed in roughly reverse chronological order (newest at the top).

This is going to take me a while. I thought I’d start with my CDs.

Meanwhile, if you’re not inclined to wade through all of this <grin!> I’ve marked what I think are my best efforts with ‘(**)’. Type command-F (on Mac) or control-F (on Windows) and search for **.

One keeps writing, and sometimes the Dove Descends — but only if She sees you have been faithful.

Serene Garden (2021)

“Each day I experience sadness as I see the suffering of loved ones near and far, as well as the joy of a beautiful day and watching children play. We need an inner place to sit quietly and reflect on the sorrow and anger, and also the joy and grandeur of all that comes into our lives. I wrote Serene Garden to be a musical cocoon and sanctuary, a place to give your soul rest, a place to feel once again the width and height and depth of what it is to be human.”

Music of the Spheres (2003) **

From the time of Pythagoras, about 2600 years ago, music has been played on glass in various ways. In 1761, Benjamin Franklin invented the ‘glass armonica’, which works on the same principle as running your moist finger around the rim of a wine glass. Pythagoras is credited with an imagination of the Cosmos in which each planet rides on a giant crystal sphere, and each sphere sings a note, all of which make

‘The Music of the Spheres’. Composed and performed by William Wilde Zeitler (ZITE-ler) on the glass armonica, and accompanied by harp, wine glass chorus and gentle percussion, the Music of the Spheres guides the listener on a poetic journey through this ancient imagination of our planetary system – “musical, mathematical and mystical.”
